80th Anniversary Moomin Exhibition - Sep 2025

GRIFE Celebrates Finnish Heritage at the Opening of 80th Anniversary Moomin Exhibition

The Global Research Institute for Finnish Education (GRIFE) at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) was invited by the Consulate General of Finland in Hong Kong to the opening ceremony of the exhibition, “The Door Is Always Open: Tove Jansson and 80 Years of The Moomins” in the Hong Kong Central Library on 30 September 2025.  Ms. Ka Yiu WEI, the Executive Officer of GRIFE attended this special event. During the opening ceremony, both Mr. Timo Kantola, the Consul General of Finland in Hong Kong and Macao, and Miss Rosanna Shuk-pui Law, JP, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, expressed their appreciation for the exhibition and commended its arrangement.

As an institute dedicated to exploring the values of Finnish education, GRIFE finds profound resonance in the world of the Moomins—a cultural cornerstone of Finland. The stories, much like Finnish educational philosophy, are built on themes of inclusivity, empathy, and safe, nurturing environments. The exhibition's central theme, "The Door Is Always Open," directly mirrors GRIFE's mission to foster open dialogue and welcoming communities for educational innovation.

Celebrating 80 years since their creation in 1945, the Moomins' tale of finding home and belonging remains timeless. The exhibition is open at various Hong Kong locations from 29 September 2025 to 16 November 2025.
