GRIFE Finnish Education and Global Perspectives Seminar Series XXXI
We are delighted to invite you to the GRIFE Finnish Education and Global Perspectives Seminar Series XXXI, titled " Bridging research, practice and policy: Recommendations on the way forward for EU-Hong Kong academic cooperation”.
This seminar aims at discussing EU–Hong Kong academic cooperation against the backdrop of Hong Kong's first Five-Year Plan, positioning Hong Kong as a unique trust intermediary in broader EU – China relations. We aim to cover emergent opportunities amid divergent stakeholder expectations, and assess competition in STEM, complementarity in global governance, humanities and social sciences, and systemic barriers (e.g. funding and cross-border people/data flows). Central to our discussion is the value of bottom-up practitioner input and evidence-based policy research in informing decision-making. We call upon policymakers on both the European and Hong Kong sides to invest in sustained structured dialogue and adaptive operational frameworks, leveraging Hong Kong's distinctive bicultural and multilingual legal and academic traditions to build trust, reduce friction, and co-design resilient partnerships serving common interests of Hong Kong, China, and Europe, particularly the EU and its member states.
