About GRIFE
The Global Research Institute for Finnish, European, and Global South Education (GRIFE) at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) pioneers educational innovation through global partnerships, addressing urgent global challenges. In an era of rapid technological and societal change, we bridge global pedagogies to cultivate adaptable, sustainability-oriented learners—aligning with UNESCO’s (2017) call for education systems that foster critical thinking and ecological resilience.
Since its founding in December 2023, GRIFE initially focused on advancing research on Finnish education models. Over time, our engagement has expanded beyond Finland to include comparative studies of educational reforms and complex global educational challenges across Europe and the Global South. In parallel, our network of partners has grown significantly—from Finland and Hong Kong to 10 other countries and regions. GRIFE’s organisational evolution and the expanding scope of our partnerships reinforce our role as a bridge between diverse educational ecosystems. .
GRIFE generates transformative insights by comparing global education models. Through research, policy dialogue, and cross-cultural exchange, we equip educators and institutions to reimagine learning for a sustainable future.
