We are delighted to invite you to the upcoming GRIFE Seminar Series X, titled "Hong Kong as a Mediator for EU–China Higher Education Cooperation: Opportunities and Challenges."
Professor Yuzhuo Cai's talk, based on his ongoing research with colleagues at the Education University of Hong Kong, explores Hong Kong’s role as a mediator in EU–China higher education amid shifting geopolitical dynamics. Blending conceptual and empirical analysis, he highlights opportunities rooted in Hong Kong’s academic excellence, adherence to global standards, and strategic location. Proposed roles include facilitating joint research, hosting academic exchanges, fostering dialogue to address misperceptions, and connecting European institutions with Chinese networks. His talk underscores Hong Kong’s capacity to maintain trust with European partners, navigate political and economic uncertainties, and reinforce its position as a vital conduit for EU–China academic collaboration. However, challenges such as geopolitical tensions, concerns over academic freedom, and growing competition from other regions pose significant threats to these roles.
