Strengthening Finland-Hong Kong Collaboration in Education and Research! – Feb 2026

Strengthening Finland-Hong Kong Collaboration in Education and Research!

It was an honour to welcome Dr. Olli SUOMINEN, Education and Science Counsellor from the Embassy of Finland in Beijing, along with his assistant, Mr. Petja VATANEN from the Consulate General of Finland in Hong Kong and Macao, to The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) on 23 February 2026.

They visited The Global Research Institute for Finnish, European, and Global South Education (GRIFE), where we held insightful discussions on the future of educational cooperation.

During the meeting, Professor John LEE, President; Chair Professor of Curriculum and Instruction; Director of Academy for Applied Policy Studies and Education Futures; Director of Academy for Educational Development and Innovation warmly welcomed two important guests from Finland.

Professor Yuzhuo CAI from Department of Education Policy and Leadership and Co-Director of GRIFE, proudly introduced GRIFE’s latest initiatives. Professor Lixun WANG, Associate Director of GRIFE, Acting Head and Professor (Practice), Department of Linguistics and Modern Language Studies; Associate Dean (International Engagement), Faculty of Humanities; Associate Co-Director, Global Institute for Emerging Technologies, specifically highlighted the impactful work of our Special Interest Group (SIG) in Media Education and Digital Competence.

Dr. Olli Suominen also shared valuable insights into the Team Finland Knowledge (TFK) programme, emphasizing its goal to create and strengthen the cooperation between Finnish higher education institutions and target regions and countries selected to the TFK network, and to design new operating models for cooperation. We are thrilled about the potential opportunities this network offers for joint research and academic mobility.

We are delighted to see the growth of GRIFE and look forward to deepening the ties between Finnish and Hong Kong educational researchers and practitioners.

Here is to building bridges for knowledge exchange and innovation!
