GRIFE Young Scholar Seminar Series V

GRIFE Young Scholar Seminar Series V

We are delighted to invite you to the upcoming GRIFE Young Scholar Seminar Series V, titled " Beyond Devices: Rethinking Digital Learning in Mathematics Education Through a Doctoral Lens ”.

Behind every doctoral thesis is a story of persistence, discovery, and transformation. This seminar reflects Cloneria Jatileni’s doctoral journey and presents key insights from her article-based PhD research on technology-enhanced learning in mathematics education in Namibia. Her dissertation examined students’ and teachers’ behavioural intentions toward digital technologies, with particular focus on the Bring-Your-Own-Device approach and mobile-learning integration in resource-constrained contexts. The research illuminates how attitudes and contextual conditions influence technology uptake in mathematics classrooms, offering evidence-based implications for policy, teacher education, and the implementation of digital learning initiatives.

In addition to presenting empirical findings, the seminar will discuss the lived experiences that shaped her academic trajectory: navigating multiple roles, including research collaboration, teaching, and project-related roles to completing an article-based dissertation. It highlights key methodological and practical lessons learned, including ethical considerations and the realities of conducting technologyrelated educational research in Sub-Saharan Africa. The session aims to offer early-career scholars’ guidance on sustaining research motivation, navigating international academic collaborations, and developing a coherent research agenda that bridges global frameworks with local educational needs.
